Introduction

As the single largest energy storage project for MVM, Hungary’s national power grid, it also stands as a major milestone for grid-side energy storage applications in the region. Upon commissioning, the project will deliver multiple benefits: From an operational perspective, it can flexibly participate in grid ancillary services including primary and secondary frequency regulation, and engage in energy trading on the electricity spot market to diversify revenue streams. From a system perspective, it can markedly boost the grid’s capacity to integrate renewable energy and reduce reliance on conventional coal-fired power, providing critical flexible support for Hungary to meet the EU’s 2030 renewable energy targets.
